The Santa Monica takes you on a leisurely cruise along the Mandovi River. While the boat sails down the river, local boys and girls perform folk dances and sing mandos. Their performance is followed up a live band. The Santa Monica then takes you past the Panjim riverfront to Miramar to witness a spectacular sunset.

This cruise is generally included in the North Goa Tours arranged by the GTDC. This is an hour long cruise on the Santa Monica which takes guests out on a leisurely sail down the River Mandovi from the Santa Monica jetty in Panaji. While the vessel sails serenly down the river past the beautiful Adil Shah Palace that was once the first building in Panjim City.

This was the summer palace of the Sultan which was then used by the Viceroy of Portugal and finally by the government of Goa as its Secretariat. Now that a new Secretariat is in use on Porvorim Hill across the river Mandovi, the Adil Shah Palace wil be turned into a cultural centre with art galleries and concert halls, etc.

While you sail down the river local boys and girls treat you to some Goa's best known folk dances, the dekhni and the fugdi. They sing mandos and finally give over centrestage to live musicians or a DJ and the guest can then sing and dance and generally make merry. This cruise is a huge success with people of all ages, men, women and children.

The Santa Monica then takes you past the Panjim riverfront past the jetty and old colonial buildings on past the Promenade with its lovely tree lined avenues past Miramar where you sit and watch one of Goa's spectacular sunsets.

You can see the spread of the Mormugao Port and the mass of the Aguada Fort and as the shadows lengthen you find yourself transported back in history to the time when all visitors who landed on these shores loved Goa so much they wanted to possess her.

The Santa Monica then turns around and sails back to her jetty along the silent Mandovi, past the pretty cottages of Betim.

The Bambolim beach is located near the little seaside town of Bambolim which is about 7km from Panaji, the capital city of Goa. Although there is no bus service to the beach, it is quite accessible by road and can be reached using the services of a pilot or taxi service.

Bambolim beach, like most of the beaches in Goa is at its best during the tourist season, from October to March. Those who choose to visit between March and June, should beware the hot sun, and carry water and sunscreen. From June to September, the monsoon season, the beach has its own peculiar charm, but the sea is not safe to swim in

The Bambolim beach is a great place to have a beach picnic and enjoy the quiet and solitude of one of the less frequented beaches in Goa, whilst at the same time, being more accessible than most of the other secluded beaches.

Goa Government Interdict Crowd-Pulling Dance Festivals In Peak Tourist Season

The Goa government is mulling not to permit the crowd-pulling dance music festivals in the state during the peak tourist season.

One of the biggest reasons most of us prefer travelling to Goa during the year-end is because we just love welcoming the new year by grooving to the tunes of the popular electronic dance music (EDM) festivals--Sunburn and VH1 Supersonic, that are held at the beach destination.

But things won't be the same anymore, as these festivals won't be allowed in Goa during the festive week of Christmas and New Year, said Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar. The state government of Goa is mulling not to permit the crowd-pulling dance music festivals in the state between December 15 and January 15, which is the peak tourist season.

Although this decision won't make too many travellers happy, putting a ban to such events being organised in the period from December 25 to December 30 became a necessity as they were criticised by the Opposition as well as civil society groups, because of the traffic congestion and pressure on public infrastructure, especially a time when tourism activity in the state is already at its peak.

"We are seriously thinking not to allow mega events like EDM festivals between December 15 and January 15 every year as the state witnesses rush of tourists during that time who arrive here to usher in the New Year," Parulekar told PTI.

He further added that if the organisers want, they can have their event before December 15 or after January 15, when the peak time for rush of tourists is not there.

Both the organisers have already moved an application seeking permission to host the festival this year.

"The panel has asked them to submit their proposed dates for holding the event. We have also conveyed the organisers to consider holding the events before December 15 or post January 15 to reduce further pressure on the state machinery," the minister said.
