UGADI
Ugadi is celebrated as the first day of the
year by people of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. On this day new Samvatsara, which is cycle of sixty years, starts. All sixty Samvatsara
are identified by unique name.
Ugadi / Yugadi / Samvasaradi / Gudipadwa is the
New Year’s Day for the people of the Deccan region of India. Ugadi marks
the first day of the new year. Chaitra is the first month in Panchanga which is
the Indian calendar. Ugadi is celebrated in the states of Andhra Pradesh,
Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Punjab, West Bengal and Assam
with different names.
Ugadi is not only celebrated in south India, but
it is celebrated in central Indian region like Maharashtra where is it known as
Gudi Padwa. The day of Gudi Padwa begins with an oil-bath and eating Neem
leaves ritual followed by prayers.
The Famous part of the Ugadi festival is the special dish “Ugadipachadi”. It is made of six different tastes, each resembling the shade of life. Ugadipachadi is prepared with different tasting ingredients like – neem buds, green chilli, salt, jiggery, tamarind juice, banana, and mango. The Ugadi special dish has a great meaning in it and people celebrate the new year by having Ugadipachadi and by sharing it with everyone every year
