Megamalai is the kingdom where the clouds meet the mountains. It is arguably the most beautiful hill station in South India, known to a selective few and seen by even fewer people. This lovely place is bound to capture your imagination. Good place to stay and enjoy a lovely surrounding. One can also watch the animals roaming in the forests, which are close to Megamalai, 

Megamalai, popularly called High Wavys Mountains, is a cool and misty mountain range situated in the Western Ghats in Theni district, Tamilnadu, India. It is a place of natural beauty dotted with cardamom plantations and tea estates. The place is situated at an elevation of 1,500 m above sea level and it is rich in flora and fauna. 

Megamalai a 6000 acre tea plantation is located in Tamil Nadu about 43 kms off Chinnamanoor, on the Madurai - Kumili Interstate Highway. Today Meghamalai has become the cynosure of every tourist. The approach via Chinnamannur is more scenic. Only forest lodges and rest house are available at the hill top. Prior reservation and permission is an absolute must.

It is a cool and misty mountain range and lies at a distance of 130 km from Madurai. A perfect place for nature lovers, its altitude is 1,500 m above sea level. The vegetation of the Meghamalai hills includes scrub forests at the foothills, stretches of tea and coffee estates, spice plantations of pepper, cardamom, cinnamon and the dense evergreen forest cover.

The Kumbakkarai Falls are located in the Theni district of the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Kumbakkarai Falls is source is River Pamba. It is a feast of nature and yet another tourist attractions for all.

Kumbakkarai falls is located 8 km from Periyakulam and on the foothill path of Kodaikanal. The origin is from the Western Ghats, passes through the rocky zones and pastures to flow down as Kumbakkarai falls.

In the process of long travel the water Falls bring down the goodness of minerals and herbs of the mountain that can cure skin diseases and other related ailments. Bathing here is a pleasure and also medicinal purification too. This is lesser known to tourists.

Very popular with locals and people around the district. This takes a Two Stage fall. The first collects the water in rock recess named after wild life animals. In the second stage river Pamba flows for initial stretch of few kilometers and drops down as Kumbakkarai Falls and it is a perennial source of water.

A five centuries old temple of Goddess Thadagai Nachiamman is near the falls and visited by devotees in large number. Due to the long journey of the waters, they acquire healing and medicinal powers, to cure skin and other minor ailments.

The Kumbakkarai Falls are lesser to known to the tourists, while being quite popular amongst the locals. The source of the waters of the Kumbakkarai Falls is the River Pamba.The tourists who visit these falls enjoy bathing under the healing waters. The Kumbakkarai Falls remain perennial throughout the year and the water currents are fierce during the rains. The height of the Kumbakkarai Falls is up to 400 meters!

The temperatures at the Kumbakkarai Falls remain low even in summers and the weather can be quite chilly during the winter months! There are many temples on the way to the Kumbakkarai Falls from the nearest town. The nearest railway station and airport to the Kumbakkarai Falls is at Madurai.



Suruli Falls – It Is One Of The Allure Places For Tourist In Theni District Of Tamilnadu

Suruli falls situated near Cumbam in Theni district of Tamilnadu state of India. Suruli Falls serve as a perfect picnic spot. They lie on the way to Periyar National Park, at a distance of 123 km from Madurai. The falls originate from the Megamalai hills and descend from a height of 150 feet.

They are surrounded by the astounding beauty of the dense forest and even find mention in Tamil Epic, Silappathikaram, written by poet Ilango. The best feature of Suruli Falls is that they are round-the-year falls. There are facilities for both men and women to bathe in the falls separately.

Concrete flooring at the bathing spot, dressing room, toilets, tiles-covered stairs with iron barricades leading to the falls and parapet walls provided comfort to tourists to an extent. Cement benches were also put up at an open circular area near the falls for tourists to sit and relax and dry their wet clothes.

The falls serve as the venue of Summer Festival, organized every year by the Tamil Nadu Tourism Department. Although tourists visit the place throughout the year, the best time to come here is June to October. During this time, the volume of the water in the falls is astounding.

The Kailasanathar Temple Cave is also an added attraction of the place. It is located near Suruli Falls, at a height of 800 meters above the falls and has a spring, which is believed to have water with curative powers.

There are also other 18 caves in and around the Suruli Falls of Tamil Nadu. Then, there is a dargah near the falls, named after a Muslim mystic, Abubacker Masthan who lived around here in 1630s. Being the last resting place of the mystic, the dargah is an important place of worship.

The dargah also lies close to the cave temple of Kailasanatha. There is another temple near the Suruli Falls called the Suruli Velappar temple, dedicated to Lord Kartikeya. The pilgrims visit the temple with pots of milk on Saturday.
