Located at a distance of 48 Km from the main Dhanbad City, the Maithon Lake by the Maithon Dam entices nature lovers. Facilities of fishing and boating are available here. This is the anglers’ paradise. They can come and sit by the deck to fish or they can also row a boat in the middle of the water and practice angling in the midst of the serene nature. People enjoy the nearby deer park and bird sanctuary as well. Alongside, they can also explore the gigantic Maithon dam, managed by DVC.Tourists can avail buses and taxis to reach the place from the Dhanbad city. 

In 1942, throughout the course of war II, a flood occurred within the Damodar natural depression region that cut Kolkata (Calcutta that time) remained cut off from the country for a period of ten weeks. Soon the govt. sprang into action & referred to as Mr. W.L.Voord, an engineer of Tennessee natural depression Authority (TVA). He designed the setup of the dams by 1945. Finally the primary dam of independent Indian nation came at July seven, 1953 at Tilaiya. Soon Konar, Maithon & Panchet Dam followed in its footsteps in 1955, 1957 and 1959 severally.

Maithon Hydel station (MHPS) is found on the river Barakar 12.9 kilometer higher than its confluence with the Damodar close to the border of Dhanbad & Burdwan districts of the states of Jharkhand & West Bengal severally. The distinctive feature of this can be that it's situated underground within the neighbourhood of the river and is that the 1st of its kind in India. The ability station contains a total generating capability of sixty MW with three units of twenty MW every. MHPS is found at nearly one thousand feet below the water level,and is that the 1st of its kind, in South East Asia. The Maithon Hydal Power Station staff colony and reservoir is located in the state of Jharkhand whereas hydal is located in Burdwan district of West Bengal. The lake is spread over 65 square kilometres (25 sq mi). 

Maithon Dam is not far from Asansol and decent accommodation is available on the way to Mithon in the form of hotels and resorts. There are no hotels or resorts on this dam other than the forest bungalow run by West Bengal Forest department. It is not easy to get an accommodation in the forest bungalow. 

Maithon Dam, located in the border of West Bengal and Jharkhand is a place you would like to visit for its scenic beauties. One side of the Dam is located in the State of West Bengal and the other side on Jharkhand. The Damodar or Barakar River passes through this hilly region like a snake. The green hills, blue water makes the place real lovely and mysterious.

It is 52 kms from Dhanbad. Maithon can also be translated as 'Mother's Abode'. Maithon has the biggest reservoir in Damodar Valley Corporation. This dam, designed for flood control, has been built on Barakar river. It has a unique underground power station which is first of its kind in S.E. Asia. just a little away from the dam lies an ancient temple at Kalyaneshwari.The lake at maithon is spread over an area of 65 sq.kms. On an island in the lake is a rest house which offers accommodation.Boating and fishing facilities are available. Close by, a deer park and a bird sanctuary have been established.

Dhanbad is situated around 270 kms from Kolkata in Howrah - Delhi route.

Parasailing training, Giridih

Parasailing is an exciting aero sport harnessed to a half cut orange shaped parachute called 'Parasail', which is towed to a jeep on land or by a motor boat above water up to a height of 300 feet with the help of a roap. At this height there is no engine, no sound, no pilot, only excitement and thrill. The flight is controlled entirely by the operator from jeep or boat.

Latehar District has always been the best destination for Adventure Tourism in Jharkhand. Latehar district has been created on 4th April 2001. Previously, it was a subdivision of old Palamau district of Jharkhand State. Latehar district is situated between 84deg. 31 min. East latitude 23 deg. 44.4 sec north latitude.The geogrophical area of the district is 3651.59 square kilometers. There are 7 (Seven) Development Blocks, namely Latehar, Chandwa, Balumath, Manika, Barwadih, Garu and Mahuadar

Adventure is the future of tourism in naturally vibrant Jharkhand. At least the tourism department projects seem to go a long way in establishing the state as a hot destination for adventure tourists. Two special sub-committees have been set up to speed up the work on both setting up Jharkhand Adventure Tourism Institute and studying potential for developing adventure sports sites. If all goes well, the state would offer right from scuba-diving, snorkeling, rafting, sailing, kayaking, canoeing, paddleboat, parasailing, paragliding to trekking, mountaineering, jungle safaris and host of other activities.

ADVENTURE INSTITUTE

The spot assessment committee would see the scope of developing the area as an adventure tourist spot and what kind of equipment are necessary. The members would be required to speak to local people and select a few capable and interested persons who could then be trained.

The decision was taken at the first meeting of the proposed institute’s executive council which was chaired by tourism and planning secretary Arun Kumar Singh, also the president of the council. Two special sub-committees were also set up to work out the details of the institute and its activities.

Other members include the institutes’ vice-president, tourism director, director of art, culture, sports and youth affairs, nodal officer from NISWS, director of army adventure directorate, air force adventure directorate, representatives of the DGP, representatives of GOC and others.

Jharkhand Government Wants To Develop The Ranchi Lake As A Major Tourist Destination Of The City.

The Ranchi Lake, commonly known as Bada Talab, is set for a face-lift with the city civic body drafting a multi-crore plan to conserve and beautify the British-era water body.

The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has drafted a plan to conserve the lake with an estimated cost of Rs 14.42 crore. The lake over the years has become polluted due discharge of untreated sewer water and waste dumped by residents.

Located at the base of the landmark Ranchi Hill, the 53-acre man-made lake–2,100ft above sea level–was dug up by Colonel Onsely, a British agent and his men in 1842.

The RMC plans to develop the historic lake as tourist spot that will have a food court, a jogging track, lightning and landscaping of the lake.

“The lake will be developed in three phases. The first phase, which is likely to being in a month or two, will see construction of basic infrastructure like a boundary wall, a pathway, lighting and sitting arrangements and beautification work,” said Bijay Kumar Bhagat, superintendent engineer at RMC.

Local residents said the years back, water from the lake was used for drinking. “The water has become polluted due to the inflow of untreated sewer water,” said Rajeev Kumar, a local resident.

“The polluted water is affecting the health of residents as it has turned into breeding ground for number of water-borne diseases due to the pollution,” he said.

RMC officials said conservation plan for Bada Talab was being drafted since 1980 but the plan has not been executed so far.

In 2013, the RMC drafted Rs 53.47 lakh renovation and beautification plan.

The corporation has decided to stop the draining of sewage water into the lake, said RMC executive engineer Uma Shankar Ram.

“A by-pass drain has been constructed so that sewage water is not drained into the lake,” he said.

The RMC planned to set up a sewage treatment plant for treat untreated sewer water with the help of Neeri (national environmental engineering research institute) technology. “The plan was dropped as we did not want to depend on a single technology,” Bhagat said, adding that an expression of interest has been floated for maintaining the cleanliness and water quality in the lake for five years.

“We are expecting agencies to come up with different technologies out of which the best will be picked,” he said.

The Jharkhand government wants to develop the Ranchi Lake as a major tourist destination of the city.

In January this year, chief minister Raghubar Das, laying the foundation of a statue of Swami Vivekananda at the lake, said a 30ft statue will be installed in the middle of the sprawling lake and the government will develop Bada Talab as a tourist spot in the next two years.

Jharkhand Tourism Board Is Planning To Develop Ropeways In Five Prominent Tourist Destinations

Looking out of the window of a ropeway gives you the impression of a bird which is flying at steady pace, while soaking in the beauty of a landscape in its entirety.

The tourism board of Jharkhand seems to have realised the beauty of this experience, and is thus wanting to share it with the world. In a bid to boost tourist arrivals, the Jharkhand Tourism board is planning to develop passenger ropeway services in five prominent tourist sites across the state.

Mono-cable passenger ropeways will be set up in Ranchi's Pahari Mandir and Jonha falls, Massanjore Dam in Dumka, Ramrekha Dam in Simdega and Dalma Hill under the Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary, and the feasibility study for the same has already been initiated by the engineers of the Jharkhand Tourism Development Corporation (JTDC).

As of now, Jharkhand has just one ropeway that's operational. Located around 25 km from Deoghar, this ropeway in Trikut Hill offers tourists a ride from the base to the top of the hill. The Trikut Hill's mythological significance is attached to the that it is believed to be the resting site of Ravana's Pushpak Vimana during his journey to Lanka from Kailash in the Himalayas.

Although more ropeways would make Jharkhand an even bigger tourist attraction, the tourism department has not yet given any time as to when they will come on the ground. The tourism board is likely to use public private partnerships for executing the projects.

Baidyanath Jyotirlinga temple is one of the famous temples in India. It is a Hindu temple located in Deoghar district, Jharkhand. This is also known as Baba dham and Baidyanath dham. This is of the 12 Jyothirlingas and it is considered a place of shelter for lord Shiva.

Vaidyanath is one of the 51 Shakti peethas, Hindu temples dedicated to Devi/Shakthi . Jyotirlinga of 'yoni peetham' is also considered as a Shakti peetha.

According to Shiva Purana, the demon Ravana, king of Lanka begged lord Mahadeva/Shiva and asked him to come back to Lanka. Lord Mahadeva/Shiva did not accept his prayer but gave him a Linga.

He said that the twelve symbols of the Jyothirlinga were so effective that there should not be a break in the journey and the linga should not be deposited anywhere on the earth. If the linga was put anywhere it would be fixed to that place and cannot be moved. Ravana accept this condition and started the journey.

Lord Vishnu appeared in front of Ravana in the form of a brahmin and talked to him. Unaware of Vidhnu's cunning, Ravana asked the brahmin to hold the Jyothirlinga for a minute.

Lord Vishu accepted it and Ravana relieved himself. When he came back, the jyothirlinga had disappeared.When he searched, he found it fixed to the earth. Out of frustration, he pressed it with his thumb and it got depressed and tilted slightly. This is the story behind the Linga of this famous Indian temple.

Baidyanath temple contains 21 other temples in its temple complex. The main shrine of Lord Shiva is in lotus shape and 72 feet tall. The presiding deity of this temple is Lord Vaidyanath or Baidyanath (Shiva) in the form of Lingam.

Each Jyotirlinga temples takes different manifestation of Lord Shiva and the idol of Lingam is considered as a presiding deity in every Jyotirlinga temples.Lingam represents the beginning less and endless, which symbolizes the infinite nature of Lord Shiva. 

Shravan Mela festival is the famous festival celebrated in this temple in the month July or August which attracts millions of devotees.

The devotees collect holy water of Ganges from Sultanganj which is nearly 117 kilo meters away from the temple.

The pilgrims from various parts of the world, carry the holy water in Kavadi and walk all the distance on bare foot, wearing saffron-dyed clothes and offer that holy water to the presiding deity of Baidyanath temple.
