On passing 'Bara Pol', you will come across a triple arched gate, which is known as 'Tripolia'. Between these two gates, you would see eight marble arches or Toranas, where Kings used to weigh themselves with gold and silver. Besides Tripolia, there is an arena where elephant fights were staged. Across 'Tripolia', you would enter the 'Elephant Gate' or the 'Hathi Pol'.

City Palace comprises 11 wonderful palaces, which were built by different rulers still they resemble each other. With the sheer glimpse of unique paintings, antique furniture and exquisite glass mirror & ornamental tiles work of these palaces, you will get amazed. SAFDARJUNG TOMB

AT

NEW DELHI

Safdarjung Tomb is one of the most magnificent tombs of India, situated in the capital city of Delhi. The tomb of Mirza Muqim Abul-Mansur Khan, entitled Safdar-Jang, who was the viceroy of Oudh under Muhammad Shah (1719-48) and later on prime minister under Ahmad Shah (1748-54). The tomb was built in about 1754 by Shuja'u'd-Daula, Safdar Jang's son.

Safdarjang Tomb dates back to the year 1753 and lies at the Lodi Road of New Delhi, near the Safdarjung Airport. Surrounded by blooming gardens, the entire complex of Safdarjung tomb covers an area of approximately 300 sq km.

The tomb is the last example of the pattern which began with Humayun's tomb. Enclosed within a large garden, divided into squares on the charbagh pattern, with tanks and fountains along the central pathway, with a gate on the east and pavilions on the other three sides, the tomb proper stands out in the centre of the enclosure.

The garden of the tomb has been designed as per the Charbagh style of the Mughal gardens. It is also said that tomb of Safdar Jung is built almost on the same pattern as the Humayun's tomb.

Safdarjung tomb has been constructed out of red sandstone and buff stone. Along with Safdarjung, the tomb also houses the remains of his wife.

All the apartments in the Safdarjang Tomb, with the exception of the corner ones, are rectangular in shape.

Red and buff sandstone has been used in its facing, a large proportion of which was stripped off from' Abdu'r-Ral,lim Khan-i-Khanan's tomb. The marble panels on its corner-towers are pleasing but rather florid.

In fact, its exaggerated ornamentation and lack of proportions, evidenced particularly by its vertical elevation, rob it of the character of a great building, although it has been rightly described as 'the last flicker in the lamp of Mughal architecture at Delhi'.

Entrance Fee:
Citizens of India and visitors of SAARC (Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Maldives and Afghanistan) and BIMSTEC Countries (Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Myanmar) - Rs. 15 per head.

Others:
Indian Rs. 200/- per head
(Free entry to children up to 15 years)

Safdarjung’s tomb is on Aurobindo marg, near Safdarjung Airport. One can take the metro to Central Secretariat and then take a bus or an auto.

KAPILDHARA FALLS

AT

ANUPPUR

Kapildhara waterfall is located in the Amarkantak district of the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. It lies at a distance of 6 kilometers from the Narmada Kund. The holy waters of the River Narmada plunge from a height of about 100 feet, from the ground level. This cascade gets its name from the famous sage Kapil, who had resided at this place and performed severe religious austerities.

Kapil muni is said to have received the divine light at this very place, according to the ancient scriptures. He had also written ‘Sankhya Philosophy’ an advance treatise on mathematics in the Kapil ashram. Kapildhara is set amidst majestic mountains, dense forests and low lying hills.

The mountains surrounding the Kapildhara waterfall have several caves within them, where many saints have meditated and attained salvation, during the ancient times.

The Kapildhara falls are created by the River Narmada, which originates at the Narmada Kund. Two other rivers Kapila and Erandi, join the Narmada River to form the Kapildhara falls. Though the falls can be visited all year round, the best time however remains the months of September to January, the post monsoon period. En route to the falls, one can come across the Achanakumar Tiger Reserve.

The waterfall is prominently set amidst the forests, known as Kapilvan. According to Hindu mythology, sage Kapil had tried to stop the reverse flow of the Narmada River from this point.

Kapildhara is the first waterfall from the Narmada Kund, on the banks of River Narmada. Though the waters jut down with a tremendous force, the depth of the pool underneath is only 20 to 25 feet. It has become difficult to reach the waters, as the steps that led to them have been washed away by the floods.

One needs to beware of the monkeys and langurs that frequent the falls! The people, who visit Kapildhara falls, usually collect the stones from the holy river waters, which are worshipped as shivlings, called Narmadeshwar. The pilgrims also worship the footprints of Lord Kapileshwar Shiva and the sage Kapil, at the Kapil Ashram.

Jabalpur is the nearest airport to Amarkantak, at a distance of 245 kilometers. Amarkantak is the origin of the Rivers Narmada and Son.

Archaeological Survey Of India Introduces A New Licensed And Trained Guides For 360 National Monuments

with 0 Comment

Touts not allowed: Only ASI trained guides will be available at 360 Indian monuments

One of the bad things that travellers face at the Indian monuments is the presence of touts- -those untrained and unregistered guides who almost force you into hiring them for showing the place and telling you about its history.

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has come up with a solution for this tourist harassment, reports The Times of India. ASI has introduced a new guide policy that will be implemented in all of its 360 monuments across the country.
According to this new policy, ASI will select individuals based on their merit and grant them a guide licence. Those who qualify for this license, will then need to undergo a six-week training programme provided by ASI.

Once this policy is implemented, these ASI licensed guides will be the only ones who will be allowed to provide guide services to tourists within the monuments that are protected by the central body.

"Guide licences issued by the tourism ministry would be valid and deemed to have been issued under this policy. Licences issued by any other authority would become invalid and no person would be allowed to act as a guide at centrally-protected monuments once the policy comes into effect," an ASI official told TOI.
ASI was prompted to bring about this policy after receiving numerous complaints about untrained guides and touts harassing tourists visiting Indian monuments. Commenting on this, an expert told TOI, "Foreign tourists have a particularly tough time as they are usually clueless about the norms and hire people posing as guides to tell them the history and background of the sites".

The ASI policy, through the authentic guides, also aims to provide tourists valuable information on accommodation, transportation, places of interest, markets, medical aid, helpline, and more, apart from the detailed information about national monuments.
